Webinar Kicks Off FOLOU’s Twinning Regions Programme

06/11/2024

On October 29, 2024, the FOLOU partners introduced the Twinning Regions Programme (TWRP) to a wide group of interested participants during a successful launch webinar. With about 100 registrants, the session saw active engagement from attendees, reflecting significant interest in FOLOU’s mission to support European regions in reducing food losses in primary production.

The Twinning Regions Programme (TWRP) aims to help regions tackle food loss challenges through tailored support, practical tools, and expertise. By partnering with at least five regions, FOLOU will work with stakeholders to better understand, quantify, and manage food losses, fostering more sustainable regional food systems.

Highlights of the TWRP:

  • Quantifying Food Losses: TWRP introduces a methodology to measure food losses from individual plots to entire regions, providing reliable data specific to each region’s crops.
  • Access to Innovations: Regions will gain early access to tested technologies from FOLOU’s pilot sites, helping reduce food loss directly at the source.
  • Food Loss Reporting: The Food Loss Registry, a digital system, will aid regions in consistently reporting and monitoring food losses.
  • Sustainability Tool: The programme includes access to FOLOU’s Sustainability Tool, which supports the development of effective, long-term food loss prevention strategies.
  • Certified Training: Provided by the University of Reading and FOLOU Learning Centre, these courses equip regional participants with the skills needed to lead in food loss prevention.

Running from 2025 to 2026, the Twinning Regions Programme aligns with Europe’s climate and sustainability goals, offering regions the resources and knowledge to lead food loss reduction efforts.
