Europe produces 154 Mt of roots and tubers. The case study on roots, tubers and oil crops will be held in Belgium. The methodology will be validated by using potatoes as a reference tuber and will include the validation of innovative solutions. Potatoes are the most important tuber in EU with a total production of 55.3 Mt/year and a total cultivated area of 1.5 Mha. The case study will be held in potato fields from UGENT and from WARNEZ, a large potato producing and processing company with strong experience in assessing food losses throughout the entire potato chain (harvest, storage, primary distribution).
