Europe produces 36.8 Mt of fruits and 62.9 Mt of vegetables a year. The case study on fruits and vegetables will be held in Spain (Catalonia region) which is one of the major producers of fruits and vegetables in Europe. There are also specific obligations by law in the region to the primary sector to provide food loss figures. The methodology will be validated in several of the most important fruits and vegetables and will include the validation of innovative solution. The tested fruits and vegetables will be apples and pears (14 Mt/y in EU), tomatoes (16.5 Mt/y in EU), peach and nectarine (6.5 Mt/y in EU) and cabbage and lettuce sector (6.3 Mt/y in EU).
