New FOLOU course: Integrating food loss into policy and decision-making

18/09/2026

The FOLOU project has launched a new online training course on the Ubiqua learning platform of the University of Vic–Central University of Catalonia (UVic-UCC).

The new course, “Integrating food loss into policy and decision-making”, is the fifth course developed as part of the FOLOU training programme. It explores how evidence on food loss can support the development of effective policies and strategies to reduce food loss in primary production.

The course is aimed at anyone interested in food loss policies or improving sustainability in primary production. It is particularly relevant for policymakers, public administrations, sustainability experts and advisors, and companies looking to tackle food loss.

What does the course cover?

By completing the course, learners will be able to:

  • Understand the impacts of food loss and the need to reduce it
  • Examine current food loss policies and identify good practices and areas for improvement
  • Explore how FOLOU’s evidence-based tools can support decision-making in different contexts
  • Consider future trends in food loss policy and identify opportunities to apply their learning

The training is free, fully online and self-guided, allowing participants to start at any time and work through the content at their own pace. It also encourages discussion and knowledge-sharing among learners, providing an opportunity to exchange experiences and perspectives.
