FOLOU regional event in Italy

FOLOU partner UNIBO is pleased to invite you, on the occasion of International Food Waste and Loss Awareness Day, to an event dedicated to the causes and solutions for combating food loss in the early stages of the agricultural production chain, a phase that is often overlooked in the context of food waste.

The event will be held in Italian at the Accademia dei Georgofili (Logge Uffizi Corti, Florence) on 29 September from 10:00 to 13:30, and can be followed via online streaming.

The initiative, organised in collaboration with the Tuscany Region and the Accademia dei Georgofili, will see the participation of experts from the academic, institutional and agri-food sectors. Among these, the PAGE research group from the University of Pisa will contribute its scientific expertise with presentations focused on analysing the structural causes of food loss in the early stages of the agri-food supply chain, with particular attention to the power dynamics between producers and retailers and how they influence the creation of food waste and loss.

The event will be divided into two sessions:

  • the morning will be dedicated to research, with contributions from Giulia Gallo and Sergio Saia (University of Pisa), Paola Garrone (Milan Polytechnic) and Luca Falasconi (University of Bologna), moderated by Francesca Galli (DISAAA-Unipi);
  • followed by a round table with representatives from LegaCoop, CIA, Confagricoltura, Coldiretti and Banco Alimentare della Toscana, moderated by Gennaro Giliberti (Tuscany Region – Accademia dei Georgofili).

The conclusions will be presented by Hon. Maria Chiara Gadda, Vice-President of the Agriculture Commission and first signatory of Law 166/16 against food waste.

The Tuscany Region and the Accademia dei Georgofili thus confirm their commitment to a systemic approach to waste reduction, starting from the primary stages of the supply chain, promoting dialogue between research, politics and economic actors.

To participate, please fill in the online form by 3 p.m. on Friday 26 September 2025: Https://forms.gle/NVBGxWUiq9xq5zaQ9 . For further information, please contact: Giulia Gallo – giulia.gallo@phd.unipi.it
