Catalan partners of the FOLOU project attended to an innovation and research in FLW prevention conference in Reus, Catalonia


This October, representatives of the BETA Technological Centre, the Department of Climate Action, Food and Rural Agenda, the Waste Agency of Catalonia and Espigoladors attended the VII Meeting “Let’s Make the Most of Food” that took place in Reus, Catalonia. The Catalan Ministry of Climate Action, Food and Rural Agenda and the Waste Agency of Catalonia organized this annual conference which was the culmination of 2 weeks of activities, with the presence of other related governmental and non-governmental entities.

The four-hour conference was divided in two parts: the first one was dedicated to Food Loss & Waste reusing experience in the region of Tarragona and Terres de l’Ebre in Catalonia, whereas the second part was dedicated to ongoing research projects related to Food Loss & Waste. FOLOU partners actively contributed to the event: Espigoladors presented its gleaning project, and the BETA Technological Centre introduced the FOLOU project and highlighted the project advances towards reducing Food Loss in the primary sector.

This event reflects the interest of the Catalan public administrations in keep working together with local and regional actors on new strategies to help reduce the FLW phenomenon in all its points of view. After the first round of best practices presentations, a round table discussion was held with to join entities that are currently working on this topic, as a way of sharing experiences between them and with the assistants about how to meet the FLW challenge. The round-table discussion was an opportunity to boost the first results obtained by the FOLOU consortium in the field of Food Loss at the primary sector.
